I have an a7n266-vm board that I am building a mythv box with. Is the onboard "NV15" (which shows when mythtv boots) video accelerated or should I go and see if I can scround up an agp geforce card from somewhere?

Thanks,

Rob

it is accelerated 2d and 3d if you have the nvidia drivers installed. What it won't support is xvmc motion compensation acceleration for mpeg2.

Urgh, it doesn't support motion compensation? Is that because it's onboard or because it's a geforce2?

I was able to dig up a (sigma designs) hollywood+ in the basement. Googling for "linux hollywood+" shows that it seems to be supported. Should this let me play back (w/o skipping) hdtv streams w/o skipping on an athlon 2100+ or 2600+ ?

those cards are supported, but what you are going to run into is that they will only output the video not the mythtv interface. It won't support xvmc because it is a gf2 based chip. the nforce2 onboard video does support xvmc. basically any nvidia card gf4mx higher supports the motion compensation.

Hm...doesn't the h+ do an overlay?

the h+ works with a passthrough through the vga card. Since I'm not using a tv (I have a 16:9 widescreen CRT (computer monitor with BNC & dsub inputs)), shouldn't this work ok and show the mythtv interface also?

well that is quite possible. I actually have never looked into the h+ I was just basing my statement on what I've heard of the dxr2/3 cards, and I've never actually used one of those, so I may be wrong on that account too, but I thought they output to tv just video. You would have to look into that.
