This is an FAQ. See this wiki page: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=BlackScreenWatchingTV
Which should point you to: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=TVCaptureCards

Searching the forums for "tuner type not set" would also have turned this up almost immediately. Including the upgrade hints page which lists this and other known issues rwith R5D1: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=11293&highlight=tuner+type+set

Please search before posting querstions. For future reference I highly recommend bookmarking the top level troubleshooting page on the wiki: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=TroubleShooting

I just had this issue earlier. I saw "ALSA Sound" at the top of the page and figured the rest of the page was going to be how to fix sound issues.

Turns out there's a second part.
Read towards the bottom and it'll help you solve the issue.

Who? People like you, who don't recognize a polite informative tutorial response with a request for people to _please_ try to avoid flooding the forums with FAQs which have been answered a dozen times in the last week, when they see one.

If you read a rebuke into _this_ repsonse you're probably right, but it's pretty mild one. Reading it into the original however is a complete miss. Spend some time reading the forums before you start posting. Knowing who you're talking to and what their writing style is will give you a better read on intent. Knowing who uses hyperbole or irony as a device in their writing, who is very terse or laconic, who writes like an engineer (guilty) or a school teacher, ... You may also notice that there was no profanity or abusive language in either of these postings, and that I generally use complete, well formed sentences.

I happen to answer _a lot_ of questions around here. I read practically every posting. I know when someone has spammed the forums by posting the same question under a half dozen different topics, or just isn't grasping what people are telling them. I know when the same question comes up again and again. I often go out of my way to help someone track down a particularly bizarre problem and spend days or even weeks going back and forth until it's fixed or they give up. I also often just post a link to the relevant information or a note to search for certain terms.

Sometimes I post a message like my original response in this thread, which is basically a compressed tutorial on how to fish for yourself rather than waiting for someone to give you the leftovers from the catch of the day. When I take the extra time to do this (instead of just posting the link) I'm usually trying to not only help the current poster, but also to provide a set of information and resources for future newbies.

OK, I have one of these new PVR-150's and I'm having the same issue.
But the modification to the /etc/modules.conf does not work.

ivtv 0.7.1 is detecting a TCL M2523_5N_E .
I have tried manually adding "options ivtv tuner=50" to /etc/modules.conf, but I still see this:

ivtv: ==================== START INIT IVTV ====================

This is on a installed-from-scratch R5D1 install. nVidia FX5200 connected to an NTSC TV via composite, and the PVR-150 getting analog cable on the tuner input with coax.

Works great with a pair of older PVR-150's, but I can *NOT* get this to work.

Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Typo? That should be modprobe.conf

I *think* I put it in the right file... hmmm... let me check when I get home.

Wow, that would be embarrassing.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Heh, you certainly wouldn't be the first one here on this forum to make a mistake!

Let us know if that was the issue...
