Ok, I currently have the system running a p3-866 on an ABit board (I think that's what it was :p) and an FX 5200 video card. I'm upgrading to a 3800+ with a new mobo (can't remember the make) and a 7300GT Video card.

The HD and everything else is staying the same. What's the best way to handle the upgrade so I don't need to re-install and set everything back up?

Knoppmyth uses a pretty generic kernel so I really don't think you will have much issue doing that. There may be a few minor things that need tweaked but I do belive you will still be able to boot up and all after the upgrade. I would be sure to backup the database before the upgrade though just in case things go south.

I've put a new motherboard and processor in my myth box not too long ago when my old board crapped out. Granted it was same chipset, different board vendor so it wan't as big a jump as your talking but I don't see why it should work for you.

This went off without a hitch. I love the new case and the silent video card, only problem is my CPU fan is inanely loud :(

And I need a 7pin Svideo - Composite cable for the time being since the TV it's currently connected to doesn't have Svideo. :(

Ok, so I got the cable to convert SVideo to Composite...but I still have a problem...

I have both a monitor and the TV connected. Before, what would happen is I'd see it boot initially on the monitor, then when it got to myth it would switch over to the TV.

Now, I see everything including the myth boot screen (w/ tv and status bar) then the monitor loses signal, and the TV has nearly a black screen, just some angled wavy lines, like it's getting a signal, but a bad one...

I tried installing the nVidia drivers exactly as outlined here:
http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page ... diaDrivers

And there was no change.

I upgraded to the 8776 drivers, and still no change :(

ARGH! It's trying to display the picture, it's spitting it out, but it's completely out of synch. I basically get a bunch of angled lines moving across the screen....

Since you're using composite, shouldnt this line:
Code:
Option         "TVOutFormat" "SVIDEO"

be:
Code:
Option         "TVOutFormat" "COMPOSITE"

?

Well, I wouldn't think so, the card itself only has two DMI(?) and one s-video output, I bought an s-video to composite cable...so technically I'm using s-video am I not?

Oh, and I found another problem I completey didn't expect. The recordings sound pauses every couple seconds. The picture is perfect though. It's actually in the recording, as if I copy the file to another machine and play it, it does the same thing.

No, you would need to set it for composite. The wavy picture is almost certianly caused by your video card thinking it is talking to a TV with S-video when it is actually composite.

The adapter cable only enables you to "fit a square peg in a round hole". It doesn't actually modify the signal. S-Video and Composite signals are not compatible. In fact I've even found that not all S-Video to composite adapters are created the same so you will want to be sure to use the one that came with your video card otherwise you might have some wires crossed.

Well...my video card didn't come with one, so i bought one...possibly it's no good.

I tried changing to composite, but then I got NOTHING to display on the TV.

I'm going to attempt to reinstall maybe tonight.

I moved the system to another TV, and hooked up a standard S-Video cable and it worked...

So, either the adapter is not "adapting" properly :p

Or

I need to change it to a composite signal...but...that has always given me "No Signal" when I try it.

The reason I think it's the former, and not the latter is that it never displays properly on the TV, not at post, boot, nor in Myth...

Ok, this is REALLY starting to water me off now

I found a 7Pin S-Video to Composite cable...hooked it up figuring it would work. Nothing. So I changed the TVOutFormat from COMPOSITE to SVIDEO...and still nothing.

GAH!!!!

It won't even display to the TV during boot, I can put in a bootable CD (Knoppmyth install disc) so I know it's none of the config, nothing...I can't do a damned thing on the TV

Why can't this card just have a composite out instead of this stupid 7 pin S-Video?!?

I'm open to any suggestions...
