I've lost internet access, which has worked for several weeks, from my Knoppmyth box only. I tried a bunch of stuff that didn't work so I rebooted and tried again. After the reboot:

Ran netcardconfig but changed nothing.

I can ping Knoppmyth box from other computers.
I can ping the cable modem and points beyond from other computers.
I can ping other computers and the gatewate router from the Knoppmyth box.

I can't ping the cable modem nor anything beyond it such as my dns server nor yahoo.com from the Knoppmyth box.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Can you ping using the IP addresses of the servers that are beyond your cable modem?
Did you change any of your networking set up at the same time?
In certain set ups, the Cable Modem is configured in such a way that only 1 device can be hung off of it, so the only way have multiple PCs have Internet access is to use some kind of router. Do you know if your cable company has changed any settings?

It might be worth entering at a command prompt on your Knoppmyth box:

This should return something like the following:

I'm getting intermitent access now from KM box leading me to believe there is a problem outside of it. No problems from several machines such as this one but seeing the problems with my pocketpc which is not able to ping outside the lan. Perhaps it just needs some time to correct whatever is happening.

From your various boxen it might be worthwhile running traceroute (/usr/sbin/traceroute on linux and tracert on Win) to a known address, this might point to where the problem in your LAN/WAN connectivity.

Neither traceroute nor ping could get passed the cable modem on the problems machines which had direct access to the router, one via wifi the other, KM box, is hardwired.

The box that wrote those messages goes through two uplinks before the router and had no problems. If I were more knowledgeable with ethereal or other net troubleshooting programs, perhaps I could have found the problem or at least better understanding what's going on behind the curtain.

What I did notice was a lot of blinking on all switch devices and one had a steady blinking red light and after I reset it, all was fine. I haven't a clue as to what the problem was and it has never happened before.

Have you checked your routing on your KM box? Do you have a default route through your gateway? If you are not getting name resolution it might be worthwhile using : which should generate something like this:
