I added a DVD burner to an existing install but I'm having problems with the /dev/dvd symlink. I'm able to create it and then enable dma on it so that everything works when playing a DVD but the link disapears after a reboot. Is there a proper way to generate the symlink on bootup?

If you are using R5E50 I'm guessing you are running into a udev problem. I'm pretty sure this is the case as you mention that the /dev/dvd symlink disappears when you rebot.

Hopefully that will help point you in the right direction. I'd highly encourage you to read up on udev. I know I wasn't sorry that I did. We are all going to have to learn about it eventually because it isn't going away any time soon
