Any favorites for wireless key boards without 10 key and onboard trackball?

If you find one let us know. I picked up a cheapish generic RF one with an optical mouse, 6 foot range, and all sorts of stupid "multimedia" buttons. (Micro Innovations ~$50 at Office Maxx) What I really want is a nice compact (no numeric keypad, magic buttons, ...) IR one with a longer range, but I'm not sure such an animal exists and certainly not at anything like a reasonable price.

Well I am using a microsoft wireless keyboard/mouse combo. It connects to the box ps2 and has a rf transmitter. I have no idea what it costs. was a birthday/cristmas present a while back. works just fine for me.

The MS wireless costs more and is even bigger and clunkier. The smallest one I've seen is the Gyration one that runs about $120 with mouse. The VersaLink one is also compact but costs even more and includes a built in pointing device.

Heh, funny, that's exactly the one that's on my list when I get the cash! I particularly wanted an IR one, because then you can get a nice universal learning remote and train it from the keyboard. Then you not only have a universal remote controlling your PVR, but you don't have to deal with lirc. Plus you have an actual keyboard if you need it. :-)

If you buy it, let me know how well it works...

Seen it. That one is compact, but it's NOT wirelsss. It's also a bit pricey. I know of at least 3 or 4 other compact *wired* keyboards that are less expensive and have a decent feel.

That compact, IR, wireless one though... Sigh... Why couldn't I find that when I was shopping? :(

Heh, lol.

I went looking later to see what I could find. Slim pickens.

I might pick up the one you posted, it would be nice to have a keyboard onhand near the pvr. I suppose I really don't NEED it (with putty and winscp), . . . but I WANT it. Plus it might be nice to use with MythWeb (if I can figure out how to install it, or when it is available with KnoppMyth).

Huhn? You probably have MythWeb and don't even realize it. I don't remember doing anything special, but my media box, very creatively named "black" because it is (vs. my WS "silver", or the old Dell box "biege" or "old") is running an Apache server on the standard WWW port so that from the other boxes I can use this url:

http://black/program_listing.php

And access the web interface.

I think he's referring to mythbrowser, which is not in knoppmyth yet, because of broken dependencies.

Just in case anyone is interested in this keyboard. I just picked on up from Directron and I'm pretty happy with it. It is nice and compact. The trackball is sufficent, although I don't think you would want to use it for more than a few simple navigation tasks. The range is very good and seems to pick up the signal even when the keyboard is not directly aimed at the reciever.

My only complaint is the build quality is just OK. The plastic definitly could be thicker and feel a little less "cheap". But overall I would recommend it and would buy it again.

Post subject:  Airboard...

I personally use one of these http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=15389&item=4133289938&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

It has a rubber joystick like bit that acts as a mouse, a couple of multi-media keys that for the moment are not functionall, and an IR receiver where the led indicators are for caps lock, num lock and scroll lock. The receiver also has an led that indicates when it sees IR signals even if they are not from the keyboard.

I find this useful when trying to figure out if a remote has a set of dead batteries or is the equipment it is for just being stubborn about receiving a signal.

I have not tried training a remote with letters from this keyboard, though that should be possible.

e-bay auctions have it for anything from 9.95 on a six day auction, 9.99 on an auction ending in 15 hours, and 20.00 on an auction ending in two days. None of these auctions have any bids yet, so you could pick the 9.99 plus shipping if no-one else bids.

If you want to look for one of these, the keyword I used for my search was 'sk-7100'. I have used it over a range of about 10-15 feet (3-5 meters) without any problems. I have not tested longer ranges than that.

(I am not selling any of these, I happen to like the one I have.)
