Three words for you: nVidia, nVidia and nVidia.

Which card depends on your KM system and your TV - AGP vs. PCIe, DVI, S-video, component? I believe the FX5200/FX5500 and 6200 are all fanless, keeping the noise down. I use a 6200's S-video on one of my frontends.

With your system currently configured for PVR-350 out you will need to "undo" that, but plugging the nVidia card in and having it display on your TV is child's play. Getting the settings "just right" will depend alot on your TV.

See tjc's R5E50 Upgrade Hints and Hazards post at http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13108 (I'm assuming you're running R5E50), there are lots of nVidia pointers there. Also search around these forums, most folks are using nVidia cards/chipsets.

in an odd coincidence, I have a fx5200 sitting on my desktop unused. It's in the mythtv box now. I run 350_setup.sh and say "no" to configuring the tv out, but it keeps using it.

Is there a mo re solid method of disabling the pvr350 tv out and using my video card's tv out?

I ram running r5e50 and wanting to use svideo connect ot my tv

Running the setup script and saying "no" doesn't reverse the process. (BTW - I think you meant "setup_350.sh" not "350_setup.sh".) You'll need to manually undo what /usr/local/bin/setup_350a.sh does.

- Replace your /etc/X11/xorg.conf (which may be a symlink) with the nVidia example in the same directory.

- Change your module setup in /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv to remove the PVR-350 Frame buffer setup. Basically the parts that say, "/sbin/modprobe ivtv-fb;" and "/sbin/modprobe -r ivtv-fb &&" It should end up looking more or less like this (beware the linewrap!!!):
Code:
root@black2:/etc/X11# cat /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv
alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-61 lirc_i2c
options msp3400 once=1
install ivtv /sbin/modprobe tuner; /sbin/modprobe msp3400; /sbin/modprobe saa7115; /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install ivtv; /sbin/modprobe lirc_i2c
remove ivtv /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove ivtv && /sbin/modprobe -rsaa7115 && /sbin/modprobe -r msp3400 && /sbin/modprobe -r tuner && /sbin/modprobe -r lirc_i2c

- Change the setting in the DB for the MythTV frontend to not use it.
Code:
mysql -u root mythconverg -e "update settings set data='0' where value='PVR350OutputEnable'"

- You'll probably have to reboot to get this to take effect.

bingo, thanks!

I had changed the xorg.conf link, but hadn't yet looked into setup_350.sh to see what it all did

I also had to change my default mplayer string, as I had changed it to x11 from xv

everything seems to be running now, thanks again!
