Post subject: | Intel dg965WH troubles (Dragon 2.0-like homebrew) |
Hi guys, I put together a Dragon 2.0-like system (I already had a different case, PSU, capture cards, DVD drive and storage), with the Intel dg965WH, Core 2 duo 6400, chaintech audio, ASUS nvidia card, etc. I didn't expect to have as much trouble as I'm having (which admittedly isn't as much as the first time I installed myth on the system that recently died). Problem #1: What is the correct kernel options line for this system? I have "nomce" and "intelfix" but I'm still getting complaints about "buggy BIOS" on boot with some other messages about being unable to map a particular devices PCI space. Do I also need pci=nommconf? Problem #2: My DVD drive is not detected on boot. dmesg shows that the IDE buses are probed, but nothing shows up. The drive is working, because I can boot from it (had to to install). Do I also need "all-generic-ide" on the lilo append line? Where would this normally be documented? Since this is reference hardware, I didn't expect to have to customize anything, really. Do I have an older BIOS on this MB? That said, I really appreciate all the efforts of the KM and Dragon folks. Building and setting up a complete myth system from scratch and having it (mostly) working in 2.5 hours is a big improvement from past installs. Thanks, Chris |

Try booting with the 'intelfix' parameter by itself. If that doesn't work, try 'dragon2' by itself. Either of those options should do what it takes to boot. Keep in mind you also need to have the right BIOS settings. See step 2.2 here for details: http://mythic.tv/DragonInstallationGuide.html |

Ok, I tried the following: used dragon2, intelfix, no joy. Then I noticed my BIOS was dated 7/06, seemed pretty old, so I got the latest from intel dated 1/07. Still didn't work ![]() So as a last gasp I reinstalled KM from scratch using dragon2 as the boot option. and.... it all works! Hooray! -Chris |

and.... it all works! Hooray! Glad to hear it! I'm sorry for the confusion - I re-read your posts and saw that you were trying to apply it as a lilo boot parameter, which was never going to work. At the time I replied, I thought you were talking about installation boot parameters, so I didn't reply as specifically as I could have. To others who find this thread, please use 'intelfix' or 'dragon2' as boot parameters when you are installing KnoppMyth on a motherboard with an ICH8 chipset. |

Can you tell me what 'intelfix' does? I assume it is a way to get several linux kernel options at install/boot time. If so, can you tell me what options they are? I'm trying to debug an install on a DG965RY board that I'm about ready to take a hammer to.. |

It inserts "pci=nommconf all-generic-ide" as kernel boot parameters. |
