I have googled and checked the forums but no helpful information..if this is possible, which connection is preferred? coaxial, svideo, rca plugs..Is there a specific configuration that needs to be configured for a specific connection type? I tried connecting via coaxial but no luck..Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated..thnx

I use two dish model 301 receivers feeding two PVR-150 model 1045 cards through the Svideo connection, These are configured in two separate machines one as a Master Backend/Front End and the second as a Slave Backend/FE. Both fully control the Dish Receivers for channel changes.

All of this is done with R5C7, following Cecils instructions.

I don't see any issues with R5E50 as it is even more versatile than my version. I would be there but just haven't had the time to go there yet.

Check the KM Pamphlet for setups, Search here for LIRC and PVR 150 setups, also Check over at Knoppmythwiki for PVR-150 and Set top Boc or Dish how to.

Shoud get you rolling.

Thnx for that information, but my main question is that is there some configuration that needs to be made in order to be able to view dish from the pvr-150 system? Looking through the information you provided, it looked like mostly configurations that need to be made for lirc, which to my understanding is to get the remote and channel stuff working. Before I start fiddling with the lirc stuff, I would like to at least be able to view dish from the pvr-150 system. I am currently able to view cable television via a coaxial cable, but I have been unsuccessful with dish. I have also tried an s-video connector. Any suggestions? Thnx

Yes, You need to setup your tuner card to use the Svideo connection.

Sounds like you have a working setup, that is a good start.

First if you are in the US you will want to setup a Zap2It account(search for that even on the wiki) so you can see the Dish channels inthe program guide.

Now, exit the frontend back to the Penguin on the couch.

Press Alt-2 to stop the backend.
Press Alt - s to enter mythtv-setup

Then go into Mythtv-setup and selection 1) configure the tuner card to use the Svideo input, Selection 2) Configure the Zap2it listings for those dish channels. Selection 3) bind the pvr card svideo(the card has 5 selections, 2 composite, 2 svideo and 1 Tuner) you want the first Svideo on the card to use the Zap2it listings.

That is the minimum you have to do. Again the KnoppMyth Pamphlet will get you there. Then after you finish with mythtv-setup you must run Mythfilldatabase.

All of this is from memory, my mythboxes are very busy for the wife right now so I can't go back and refresh my memory.

Before I got LIRC working I used to force my Dish to change channels via it's menu's and just capture the output on my mythbox.

If you go back to any series of setup instructions for installation from R5C7 through the latest R5E50 I am confident you will get this working

One thing, if you do not setup LIrc to tune your channels, you will need to use someting like /bin/true in the Channel change section when you bind the input connections to the capture card. If you don't it won't record.

If you can't get it working I can dig out some of my details, but even a search of some of my posts should find a couple of hints while I was fumbling through making this work.

It really is easy though. I made lots of user erros. That /bin/true is one of them.

You got it this far, you definitely have to skills to search out the additional steps to make it work.

Andy
