I've been wanting to add cpu and mobo temp sensors to my VIA EPIA MII12000 KM box so I can monitor the impact of reducing the fan speed/noise.

rrd is an awesome addon - but at this point it lacks cpu temp out of the box. There is an
article on KM wiki (http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=MonitoringGraphsHowto)
on how to add cpu temps, but for me lm_sensors reports it needs to add vt1211 and pca9540 modules to the kernel - neither of which are installed by default.

The good news is that vt1211 is included in the 2.6.19 kernel. R5E50 has 2.6.18-chw-13! Darn! Off by one :).

So I was wondering if anyone has done this? That is, do they have the vt1211 and pca9540 modules already built and (being lazy here) can share?

Many thanks.
Paul.

(in case anyone was wondering - cecil hasn't released a new version).

So I've been digging into this a little.
Remember - my goal is the sensors for my mobo/cpu - the
EPIA MII12000. According to sensors_detect, that requires the
vt1211 and pca9540 modules.

I appears that at least *some* of lm_sensors are installed in
R5E50 by default - namely the apps (sensors_detect, sensors,
man pages) and some of the modules (e.g. vt8231).
"sensors --version" reports that it is version 2.10.1.

I can download lm_sensors 2.10.2 and build it (well sorta - there's
a problem with `mach_mpspec.h', but thats another story).

My question is: should I simply do a "make user-install" with
lm_sensors to get vt1211 and pca9540, or is that going to get me
into a world of pain by interfering with the current lm-sensors? Is there
a reason sensors was installed without the vt1211 and others?

I appreciate any ideas people can provide.
Paul.

Not sure if this counts as madness - I seem to be talking to
myself here.

Anyway, further down the rabbit hole...

I didn't want to just make install on lm_sensors in case I broke
something. So I tried applying the patches for
vt1211, pca954x and (as it turns out, you need this) i2c_virt.
All of these were found in the lists on lkml.org.

I applied vt1211 then 'make modules'.
That worked - recognised the new module in Kconfig and
asked whether to include.

Loaded and unloaded ok. Now I've applied pca954x and i2c_virt
and am rebuilding. These patches are reasonably invasive - especially
the i2c_virt which could have dire consequences all over other
i2c modules. Cross fingers...
