Hi all,

I first used Knoppmyth over a year ago, with analog tv cards, and was very happy with it. I have just started using mythtv again after buying a prv 500 just for this job.

I am in the UK and have 2 STBs one SKY and one Virgin/NTL, I use one mceusb2 with 2 blasters to control them, and they are connected to the PVR-500 using a scart adapter to svideo, and red and white audio leads.

My problem is that when I start live tv, everything is in black and white. I immediately thought PAL, so I set my STBs to output pal, then went through the PAL options in mythtv-setup one by one, restarting mythtv-backend each time before testing. Every option gave me black and white, so I changed the output of the STBs to RGB, and tried each of the PAL and SECAM seatings again, still no luck.

After some searching here and on ivtv wikis and forums, I have changed my /etc/init.d/set_ivtv_params file as per the hints and hazards thread. I have also turned off VBI.

when I run v4l2-ctl while watching live tv it seems that the card is already using pal

Code:
root@mythserv01:~# v4l2-ctl --all

I don't know about the Sky Boxes, but the VM (exTW) STBs don't have S-Video output on either SCART, so you need to capture from that box using Composite. The RGB/Composite setting only affects the TV SCART, as the VCR SCART only has composite. You cannot capture RGB unless you have some kind of signal converter from RGB to S-Video/Composite.
There was someone who was trying to capture from a Sky STB who was having similar problems to you, I think he just gave up after a while. :)
There are certain things to make sure when interfacing, firstly just because the connectors fit it doesn't mean the signals are correct. As I understand it S-Video over SCART is a bit of a kludge and was added later.
Secondly, are the signals available on your connectors? As I mentioned above S-Video is not available on the exTW STBs and RGB is only available on the TV one. It could be, on the Sky box S-Video is only available on the VCR output.
