Post subject:  Motherboard selection Help. AsRock P4i65G a good choice?

I am using an old computer to build my system. The motherboard on it currently has a VIA chipset and has DMA issues which I can't get it to work. So I am thinking of getting a different Socket 478 MB.

I don't want to spend a pile of money and Socket 478 mb's are getting more and more difficult to find. I came across this mb for about 50 bucks and am wondering if any of you see any potential problems with it?

My system:

Intel 2.4 GHZ processor
512 MB Ram
ECS P4VMM2 motherboard (VIA 266 chipset which does not work)
Hauppauge WinTV PVR-500
NVIDIA 6200 Videocard
40 GB IDE Harddrive

I am planning on changing the MB and am looking at the AsRock P4i65Gbecause it is the cheapest MB with and Intel865G chipset that I can find. I am under the impression that the intel chipsets are the best.

I am also planning on putting in a 120GB sata harddrive for storage. I would Use the 40 gig as the boot drive because I have heard of issures surrounding using Sata drive to boot.

Any thoughts on this choice would be appreciated...

I'm using the P4i65G with a 3.0Ghz and 512Mb RAM for one of my frontends - Works fine, don't recall having any trouble with it.

I'm using one here. No real problems. I'm also booting from a 320Gb SATAII without any issues.

The only minor issue I see (which I saw on a previous ASUS SIS board) is occasionally the kernel shuts down my USB ports due to EMI. At which point LIRC, and then MythFrontend need to be recycled. Annoying, but I think it's more of a kernel issue, as versions prior to R5E50 did not exhibit this behavior.

Hope that helps.
