Before my motherboard broke... I had installed mythtv on a Chaintech 7Nif2 with an AMD 2400+ and used the LIRC option during the setup. Then for the life of me, I couldn't get my irman to work. I'm no expert and don't want to mess around with libraries.

I'm using a store bought all-in-one remote. So any know of a IR receiver is plug in and go with LIRC? Or one that is easier than IRman.

And help on how to program LIRC to my remote which I can set to any code. Or if someone has a good LIRC config file and knows the standard code for that remote on an all-in-one (thats if they are universal?)

Thanks,
Dave

well unfortunately at this point in time lirc is compiled for the hauppage remote only. If you want to use any other remote you will have to recompile lirc.

I have succesfully installed the Irman, and i am using a Sony A/V remote that I have customised to do the job. You need to run configure in the lirc directory, and select the Irman device. Then run make and make install. The hardest part of the exercise is getting the correct lircd.conf and .mythtv/lircrc. I used irrecord to create my own lircd.conf, but you can use an existing one from http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes. the creation of the lircrc file is simple, as long as it is saved in the correct location. The only trouble I had was that the lircrc file was case sensitive, which provided me with a day of frustration.

Hope this helps
