It seems like my remote is not detected on my system. It's really weird because it was working fine before. I just rebuilt my mythbox after several months of inactivity and everything is working except the remote. I thought at first it was the lirc config files, but they seem fine. I'm not 100% sure what I'm looking for, but it doesnt look like the system is seeing it at all. In /dev, all thats there is lircd (no lirc or lirc0). I looked at /etc/lirc/hardware.conf and it has no entries under device or modules. Lsmod also doesnt seem to show any relevant loaded modules.

For the PVR-350 Silver remote, what should the device and modules be? How can I tell if the system is seeing it at all? This is definitely weird.

Matt

Try running lirc-reconfig.sh as root and selecting the appropriate Hauppauge remote (grey or silver). You may need to fix up the DEVICE setting afterwards as described in this sticky posting: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13108

Sorry, I guess I wasnt very clear last night. I have rerun lirc-reconfig.sh and it isnt helping at all. I'm thinking my problem may be hardware, not software.

There are no lirc or lirc0 devices listed in /dev, only an entry for lircd. Also, there are no modules loaded for the device.

I am looking for a method to figure out whether or not my remote (technically the IR port) is being detected at all on the system. I tried running irw, but it hands me an error message saying "connection refused". I assume because it has no device to talk to.

Is that enough of a sign to declare it dead and buy a new remote or is there something else I can try?

Did you try modprobing the appropriate things? For the PVR-350 that would be:
Code:
modprobe -v lirc_dev
modprobe -v lirc_i2c
