Post subject: | MCE USB Remote Problems |
Hi All, Warning: I'm very new to linux. I had perviously spent a long time trying to get R5E50 working with my remote and gave up. The remote I am using is the one which came with my Hauppauge 150 MCE Kit (1062) card. After much research I find that this is not a Hauppauge remote but an MCE one with an eHome IR transceiver. Turns out per the thread on the next line that I would need the newer version of lirc to get it to work. But then I couldn't get that to compile due to a known issue with the latest kernel. At that point I got really frustrated and switched to Windows/GBPVR. But with the release of R5F1 I figured I'd try again (with a new install, not upg). http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... e&start=15 So, I ran the install, choose all 3 MCE USB options and none worked, to my disappointment. I thought I wouldn't give up so fast and copied the lirc file from the CD per this thread http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13464 (I never checked to see if there was actually a difference, I'm doubting it but I feel I should mention it). Next, I ran mode2 and was shocked and excited to see some pulses etc. But still no reaction on the MythTV side. Some of the o/ps from the cmds below don't look healthy but as mode2 works doesn't this mean my h/w is ok? $ lircd -v lircd 0.8.1-CVS-pvr150 $ lsusb Bus 001 Device 003: ID 1784:0001 Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 (The first entry is my transceiver, it disappears when I unplug it) $ lsmod | grep lirc lirc_pvr150 19896 0 lirc_mceusb2 14596 0 lirc_dev 16628 2 lirc_pvr150,lirc_mceusb2 ivtv 127376 1 lirc_pvr150 and some more stuff, please don't make me type it all out ![]() My lircd.conf is identical to the one quoted at the bottom of the first thread referenced above. I am confident I have the same remote. I realize "lsusb" doesn't give me an entry for "SMK Manufacturing", maybe that's related, I dunno. Any help greatly appreciated, please don't make me switch back to Windows! ![]() |

Got it - hardware.conf was pointing to /dev/usb/hiddev0, I changed it to /dev/lirc0 and looks like it is working now. Yeah, easy issue I know but I did say I was a newbie to linux. Some of the buttons don't do anything but that's a separate issue. I think this is a good breakthrough for KnoppMyth, getting these Hauppauge MCE remotes working that is (albeit not OOTB), I suspect there are an awful lot of them out there... |

I had the same problem with my mceusb2 remote. I think it says in the hints and tips thread that the change from /dev/usb/hiddev0 is supposed to be done by the lirc configuration script, but it sounds like it's being missed in some cases. I guess the fix is simple enough though, thanks for sharing. |
