Does knoppmyth or Myth TV take any advantage of a dual core processor? I'm realizing I can't use my original rig because it doesn't support an added in video card for TV out. Is there any reason for dual core/dual processor? |

I'm running a dual core system, as I output a fair bit of my recordings to xvid files. I have it setup to only run one job at a time, which leaves the other core free for recordings or whatever..... Probably not necessary, but I like it. |

I saw a huge performance improvement when I put a X2 in place of a single with the same MHz rating. This is in a MBE/FE unit and I can now comflag and watch HD at the same time w/o problems. With the single, this would struggle even with the re-nice trick. With prices falling on the X2s I wouldn't go single unless it was just a FE or maybe SBE unit. |

On the other hand, I run an Intel 3.0 GHz single-core HT processor and it can simultaneously watch one show while recording and comm-flagging two shows in the background. The comm-flagging occurs in near-real-time, i.e. the job finishes about 5-15 minutes after the show is finished recording. I love my AMD powered computers, but I still think Intel has an advantage when decoding MPEG2. |

My reading in this newgroup indicates that KM uses multiple threads, one will see a gain using a dual core machine. This seems to be observed in one of the postings above. I think I read that more than 2 cores is not worth it (yet). |
