Hi. Name is Joe. I'm new to MythTV. A friend of mine, who I believe is a member of this forum under the name wfdudley showed it to me. I want to set a system up for my bedroom. Here are the specs of the system I have.

Gateway System
2.6GHz Celeron Processor 400MHz FSB
256MB PC2700 RAM
70GB Total HDD Space (30GB and 40GB IDE 7200RPM)
Pinnacle Video Capture Card (No onboard tuner, just AV Inputs)
16x DVD-ROM Drive and 48xCR-R/W (plan on getting DVD-R/W)
Wired 10/100 Networking
20" CRT Computer Monitor (Thanks wfdudley!)

My concerns lie in the hard drives and the capture card. Will I have enough space? I might swap out of a bigger drive later on. Additionally, is my capture card compatible w/ KnoppMyth?

Thanks
Joe

Is your card on this list? http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=WhatCardYouUse

The disks will work, but more is definitely better. There are folks around here who have more than a terabyte of storage on their MythTV boxes. ;-)

I'd also recommend more RAM if you can manage it, while 256Mb will work for SDTV, 512Mb is better.

The rest of the specs look fine.

Alright, I'm doing something different
On craigslist, for $75, I found the following
3GHz P4 w/ HT w/ mobo
WinTV Tuner Card
AGP Video Card with TV Out.
Instead of paying $75, I'm trading him my old system, minus the Pinnacle card.
I am taking 512MB PC3200 RAM from my mom's computer (She has a gig, won't miss it)
My father recently told me he has a spare 400GB Seagate drive (go figure)
I have a power supply here, along with a DVD-ROM Drive.
All I need is an RW drive and a case, and I'm set.

I'm running MythTV frontend/backend together on a machine. I found that when displaying standard resolution, 1GB of RAM (756MB available to Myth) worked fine, but when I switched it to my HDTV in 1080i mode, I was swapping and the menus got seriously laggy -- even without anything recording.

Upgrading to 2GB solved this.

I'm not going to be using HD though. Plain old SD is good enough...for now.

Just got the equipment today. I will need to upgrade to a larger hard disk, a DVD-R/W, and possibly a better tuner card in the future, but this will do for now. Here are the specs:
Pentium 4 3.0GHz w/ HT 800MHz FSB
Asus P4S800-MX Motherboard
GeForce 4 Class AGP Video Card w/ S-Video Out
512MB DDR3200 RAM
Hauppauge WinTV 62471 Rev A TV tuner card
Sound Blaster PCI Audio Card
40GB IDE Hard Drive (For now)
10GB IDE HDD (For the OS)
DVD-ROM Drive
20" CRT Monitor
Wired Keyboard and Mouse.
Pioneer VSX-453 Reciever w/ Technics Speakers
