Post subject: Question about VGA Input
PostPosted: Fri Jun 01, 2007 8:08 am
I finally got finished building my system, and now I went to hook it up to my TV (52" JVC-DILA) that has a VGA input. So I am using the via mobo which is the onboard UNICHROME PRO IGP graphics adapter. So I went to plug in the my pc to my TV using just the VGA cable and notin actually froze my TV up and I had to unplug it for like 5 mins to reset it. I really want to use the via graphics adapter because I have a weak cpu and the via adapter is said to have mpeg2 decoder on it so it uses less cpu. I have been reading and I just can't find a definite answer so can someone help a newbie out here.

MSI K8MM-V (K8M800)
AMD Sempron 2800+
2x512 DDR 400
250 gig WD
AC'97 sound
Twinhan Vison Plus 1025 DVB-S
*DXR2 dvd decoder card (not using but if anyone knows any benefits of using this please shed some light on it)

PS this worked right away TIER 1 I guess its called.

I just setup my Samsung 26" LCD TV using the VGA connection from my via EPIA M1000. The first thing is that you need to find out what resolutions your TV supports through the VGA port. My Sammy was very selective about the resolutions and refresh rates. I ended up using 1024x768 @75Hz. You'll need to set your xorg.conf settings to default to a resolution your TV likes.

There is a good selection of modelines on the MythTV Wiki that might save you some time.

I could never get the refresh rate right for my Vizio 37" lcd. I ended up getting a graphics card and using component out.

I also have a Sempron 2800+. Without the graphics card you'll probably have trouble displaying HD, you'll probably get stutter. Either way, let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the replies guys I appreciate your help. I have been messing with that for 3 days and still no go. I am really new at linux so everything is a read a thon. I ended up putting in a Gforce 2 Mx 400 and it crashed my system am reloading knoppmyth again. I read that someone with a via chipset was using a 1ghz pc and the unichrome pro and was watching HD with 30% idle. I really want to get this way to work but until then I am going with the gforce. I have a DXR2 card (old mpeg decoder) haven't got around to trying it yet, I will post if any benefits from it.
