Prior to last week, I had standard cable with no cable box. So I was just running a single splitter from the source into my mythbox that has 2 PVR-150 tuners in it. But I just switched over to Comcast cable last week and got a standard digital cable service, so now I have a single Comcast cable box. I was told that I only have channels 1-99 (cheap cable package) and that the cable box was really only for ordering movies and some On-Demand I have available. So I assume what comes out of the wall from a cable is essentially the same as what I get from the cable box...minus the On-Demand (as in, all the channels are the same)

I don't have much of an interest in recording ON-Demand, so I can get the same channels straight from the wall that I can out of the cable box. So I was interested in knowing the best configuration for two tuners and a single cable box, if I don't get channels above 99.

I was thinking of keeping the cable box seperate altogether, and putting a splitter between the cable box and the myth box. That was I can use each independantly and not worry about an IR-blaster. And in that case, I imagine I can record two shows on my mythbox, and watch live-tv through the comcast cable box correct?

If this were the case, I would think it be best to use a 3-way splitter (from the wall to the two tuners, and the cable box) to minimize loss in daisy-chaining splitters.

Anyone have any recommendations or ideas for my cable configuration?

You may want to search for postings by IrishCream that mention Comcast. He had all sorts of trouble with his SDTV cable when they switched his Southie neighborhood from analog to digital. Basically my recollection is that the signal coming "out of the wall" was no longer usable without the box. YMMV.

I'm really not sure what you want for an end result, but in general the fewer splitters the better (meaning a three way is better than a pair of two way, or a four way is better than three two way), and try not to daisy-chain them.

Eventually Conca$t will require a box to receive cable programming, this change has already taken place in Chicago. In Chicago, now, the only signal coming out of the wall without a box is local analog channels and a few others.
