I've not seen an adapter than will convert a usb keyboard and mouse combo to the ps/2 inputs on a computer. Got a link handy? I have a spare RF wireless keyboard/trackball combo (USB) that I'd love to use on my myth box. |

This is true for some USB devices - in fact, I had a support ticket recently where someone had lockups that ended up being caused by a bad USB wireless mouse. It's not universally true, though. |

I think an important distinction that no one's making is IR vs. RF. With an IR keyboard (i.e. ACK-571), you can "learn" the keys with a learning remote (or JP1 remote) and use one remote to control your TV, receiver, Myth box, etc. However, the disadvantage to an IR remote is that it is line-of-sight. I had to get extensions for my IR keyboard receiver because my dogs kept standing in the way and blocking the signal. An RF keyboard (i.e. the nMedia), on the other hand is not limited by line-of-sight. But the keys cannot be stored in most (if any) remotes. I know some of the Harmony remotes can handle RF, but I have no idea if they work with RF keyboards. |

Just got myself a wireless usb keyboard/trackball combo  but it doesn't start by itself.
dmesg produces this (among other things): Code: usb 1-1: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3
usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice usbcore: registered new driver hiddev input: wireless usb device as /class/input/input5 input: USB HID v1.10 Keyboard [ wireless usb device] on usb-0000:00:10.0-1 input: wireless usb device as /class/input/input6 input,hiddev96: USB HID v1.10 Mouse [ wireless usb device] on usb-0000:00:10.0-1 usbcore: registered new driver usbhid drivers/usb/input/hid-core.c: v2.6:USB HID core driver It appears that the system recognizes it as a usb keyboard and usb mouse? There is a green light on the usb dongle that should light up when it's ready for use, but it doesn't. Those of you who got this kind of devices to work - did you have to do anything other than to plug it in and reboot? Cheers, /Chris |

Oh, yes There's a handshaking process involving button presses on both the receiver and the keyboard. Your owner's manual should have the steps.

The light on the dongle is supposed to come on when a driver is installed - that is when the unit is recognized as a keyboard and pointer. After that the handshake procedure can be initiated. Trying to handshake before the light comes on does nothing. Cheers |

Cheers Well, I can make mine work in just the BIOS. Does the BIOS provide a rudimentary driver? |
