Hey, KnoppMyth folks... Just a quick FYI: If you want an Myth box (KnoppMyth, MythDora, or any other combination of Linux and MythTV), avoid IBM's NetVista line of PCs. I can't get mine to run Linux properly. It freezes after a few hours. Nothing works - I've tried every different flavor I know of (Debian, CentOS, Fedora)... nothing works. After browsing this and other message boards and encountering other individuals with the same problem and no answer, I've given up and installed XP and GB-PVR (which is, I must say, a very good application). Now she runs reliably. Weird, eh? Windows runs great, but any version of the Linux kernel is a no-go. As soon as I can afford to replace the NetVista box I plan to give KnoppMyth another go, but for the moment, this is the best I can do. Just something to keep in mind. Take care, all! - Sean |

Not the computers... I got three Netvistas running SD TV with no problems whatsoever, both 1gz and 1.8 ghz models. I run HD on more upscale models, but my NetVistas are workhorses. |

I've also run CentOS and Debian on multiple NetVistas without problems. |

Where I worked we had about 150 IBM NetVista desktops (running Win2K) and they developed random hangs and crashes. Turned out that IBM used the bad capacitors on the mobo's. and they ate the costs of replacing EVERY motherboard. Even had someone onsite for 3 days to do the work. That was AFTER the three year warranty had expired, too. Hat's off to IBM for their support after the sale. So... Take the cover off and look at the caps...if they look like they're bulging or leaking, either call IBM for a replacment (that's IF you bought it NEW) or start looking for a new system. One other issue may be memory. The NetVistas were very selective with RAM. If you're using generic memory...that may be another culprit. |

Yes. Google Netvista & capacitors. One of my ebay machines suffered from this. I bought $20 worth of capacitors and replaced them all, and the machine has run 24/7 for two years after... |
