I've just recently gotten R5F27 installed and running on my Asus P5B plus motherboard (with 2 PVR 150s for capture cards and a 500 SATA HD). Previously I was running R5E50 (and older versions too) on a Nforce4 based motherboard and I was running into issues with my Mpg buffers overfilling and "application not reading fast enough" errors. I was hoping that the move to R5F27 combined with the new motherboard (the P5B was purchased specifically for this new install) woudl solve this, but unfortunately I've managed to pick another motherboard/chipset that is yielding me the same problems.

I've decided to do what I probably should have done in the first place, and that is to run a motherboard that I know other people are running without troubles. That being said, I've placed an order for an Intel DG965WH board. I'm still a tiny bit gunshy here, and before I do dish out the 170 bucks for this, I'd like to get a verification from someone (or several someones even) that they are in fact not seeing the problem that I'm seeing.

When I run a "LSPCI -v" i get a value of 0 for the latency on my IDE controller (with both this mobo and the old Nforce board I had previously).

It would put me at ease to see the results of "lspci -v" from someone running this Intel motherboard (this is the motherboard in a v2 dragon).

Can anyone help me out by posting the results in a reply to this thread? I'm at work at the moment, and my Myth system at home is not turned on, so I can't show the "bad" results at the moment, but when I get home I'll power up, and reply with it, so that you can all see what I'm looking at.

I've wrestled on and off with the same issue since R5D1 (I just upgraded to R5F27). My motherboard also doesn't allow me to adjust the PCI latency for the IDE controller, so I don't have a solution, but rather a workaround.

I have found that the buffer issues occur when mythfilldatabase is running while I'm recording. By scheduling mythfilldatabase to run in the early morning hours when I'm typically not recording, I've virtually eliminated the problem.

That is something i've noticed as well - it's not limited to when mythfilldatabase is running, but certainly that's almost a guaranteed way to duplicate the problem. I had moved my fill time to the wee hours as well, but I was also seeing it often enough to be annoying during non-fill periods.

I've seen it when recording two shows at once if someone in the home is watching a recording at the same time, or if i'm converting to an xvid while recordings are going on.

I'm not a huge fan of spending money, but I'd really just like to get this solved finally. And if buying the same mobo as the Dragon uses fixes this (which I hope it will) then I'll be happy.

Craigtv, do you know what motherboard you are using off the top of your head?

... and now that you mention it, recording 2 and watching 1 can generate the errors (basically anything that's upping the disk i/o)... just not as extreme as the mythfilldatabase
