My on board ethernet seems to be failing after 6 to 48 hours after I boot. It works fine at first, but it will fail for a reason I have not determined.

When it fails, then trying to ping my router gives a destination host unreachable.

Looking through my logs I found this:

Code:
Sep 14 00:27:44 mythtv dhclient: DHCPREQUEST on eth0 to 192.168.1.1 port 67
Sep 14 00:27:47 mythtv dhclient: DHCPACK from 192.168.1.1

At the time of the stale pid file, that's when the connection drops off. Does anyone know the reason for this?

Oh, and my dmesg for eth0 gives:

Code:
eth0: Identified chip type is 'RTL8168B/8111B'.
eth0: r10001.05, the Linux device driver for Realtek Ethernet Controllers at 0xac00, 00:e0:4d:2f:e9:8a, IRQ 20
eth0: no IPv6 routers present

So that looks normal. Any help would be much appreciated.

So my guess is that error in my logs is saying that dhclient has closed or failed somehow, and a new one is starting up, so it has to replace the old PID file.

Can anyone tell me how KnoppMyth first launches the dhclient (ie. which file is configured to call it?)

I've checked .fluxbox/apps and its not there.

Well, I've found that I can reconnect if I issue this command:

Code:
/etc/init.d/networking restart

I think I'm going to just put this in a cron job to run every 6-10 hours.

I just checked Realtek's driver versions for onboard NIC's, and it seems that version 1.05 is installed for the RTL8111B/RTL8168B onboard network chips.

On their website, it says that 1.07 is the latest version and supports linux kernel 2.4.x. Since KnoppMyth is on kernel 2.6.x, Realtek has driver version 8.003.00 for that kernel version.

My hack of restarting my networking may be a stop gap for now, but hopefully this can be updated in future versions of KnoppMyth.

When I have time, I can see if I can get the steps to upgrade the drivers, but no promises right now.
