I think that it's time to upgrade my 2nd hard drive which contains the /myth partition. I would like to get better file deletion times because sometimes playback will stutter or die when files are deleted.

So, which partition type should I use to get good file deletion times? I plan to use the entire disk for /myth. Are there any special commands for creating the partition or formatting the disk?

Also, is migrating to the new disk as simple as copying the /myth partition from one disk to the other and then swapping the old drive out?

Search for xfs and jfs on the wiki. There should be guides there on how to set them up. Here's one:

Pretty much.

Thanks. I was pretty sure that's what I needed to do.

I'm also pretty sure that I followed the instructions when I originally set up the /myth partition using jfs but the mount command reports the following:

/dev/hdc on /myth type ext3 (rw)

Am I really using the whole disk as a ext3 file system or is there a better way to figure out my disk configuration?
