Post subject:  Continuous disk activity after upgrade

Hello all -

I recently upgraded from R5C7 to R5F27. Prior to this upgrade, the disk activity indicator light would only light up when running jobs such as commercial flagging, mythfilldatabase, etc.

Now, it blinks on and off every second. I've checked
Code:
 top
and the top three running processes (when not recording) are
Code:
mythfrontend
mythbackend

and back and forth between

Code:
x-window-manage
lirc_dev

Some specs (Compaq S4020WM):

Athlon 2GHz
S3 Savage4 pro
Hauppauge PVR-350
250GB HDD
256MB RAM

I don't see anything out of the ordinary - I would expect those processes to be at the top of the list.

Any thoughts?

I would check out

top

and see if one of your processes has a memory leak that is causing it to eat up virual memory (ie disk space).

I noticed this activity also, but it has to do with monitoring the CD/DVD drive.

That setting is in the FE setup, Utilities/Setup, Setup, General - on the page that asks for a setup PIN.

With that setting 'off,' the blinking is very minimal.

larrybpsu -

That seems to have corrected this issue. Thanks for the info!

I set the monitoring of the CD/DVD drive to off, but I still get a pulsing disk activity light 24/7 after upgrading to R5F27.

Code:
top
is showing almost zero cpu activity

Fixed my problem.

All it took was rebooting after setting the CD/DVD monitoring to off.
