Hi everyone,

I have successfully loaded R5F27 on a spare PIII box that I have. It can record TV, but I don't get any sound. I have confirmed that my onboard sound works using aplay. I am using a capture card I got FAR from newegg it is an Encore ENLTV which has an SAA7134 chipset.

Looking here, the wiki, and other sites tell me that I need to load either saa7134-alsa or saa7134-oss. I have seen conflicting information on which one should work. However, loading either one just produces an error and no audio devices get loaded. I have pasted the error from an attempt to load saa7134-oss below. I have several questions:

1. Should I be using the internal cables that go from the CD player, into the card then out of the card and into the motherboard? Or should I be using the line out port on the ENLTV and plugging that into Line-In on the motherboard sound ports? Should I use only one of these or can I hook both up just to see if either works?
2. How can I determine which should work OSS or ALSA?
3. How can I fix this error or does this error indicate something unfixable?
4. Should I just give up a buy a Hauppage? (I am a little reluctant to buy an analog tuner at this point but I know that buying a digital tuner probaby means I need to upgrade most of my hardware)

I know that you probably need some more information to solve this but I also think this post is long enough already so I am going to see what people have to say and then go from there.

Thanks,

Jonathan Smith

OK, three weeks and no responses.

Is there a better place to put this?

How about just the cables question. What do most people do? An external cable from the capture card to the sound card? Or an internal cable CD-ROM to capture card and then capture card to motherboard?
