I've starting having this problem after upgrading where alsa detects the VIA onboard sound even though it's turned off in the bios. This of coarse sets /dev/adsp to the onboard sound jack rather than my chaintech av710 which is what it should be using. I can do a quick fix by changing the audio output to /dev/adsp1, but this problem seems to be intermittent, and therefore a giant pain. Has anyone else had this problem or found a permanent solution? |

Nope, and it's worked fine for a year and a half, so I'm pretty sure it's alsa and not a hardware issue. |

Many moons ago I was having problems with my sound card detection order as I had my sound card and I had a webcam with a mic in it. To fix the order of the sound cards I had to add a file: /etc/modprobe.d/sound In the file add: Code: options snd-emu10k1 index=0
options snd-usb-audio index=1 Now you will need to replace the drivers with the appropriate options, e.g. snd-emu10k1 is for my Creative Audigy. Give that a try. |

hmm, I'll give it a try. Do you happen to know where to find the actual names of the sound modules that are being loaded? |

If you do Code: dmesg |less as root you will be able to check through the startup list and it will probably tell you what it finds for a particular device.

for the record, lsmod will show all loaded modules, making it pretty easy to pick out the sound ones. The module for the av710 is snd_ice1724 Now to see if this fix works for me. |

Overall, I am very happy with this version. Thanks Cecil et. al.! My problem symptoms are that usually the sound is fine but occasionally the sound for an entire show is very tinny and muddy. In some cases the recorded show right before AND right after are fine. At first I thought it might be a specific channel but I have verified this is not the case by watching on my TV from the same directv box that I am recording the show from which is fine. I have looked around but have not seen any threads that deal with this. I did not have this problem pre-F27. Any ideas? |

So far so good, but the problem usually cropped up when I rebooted and I haven't had had to reboot much lately. I'm sure I'll post if the problem comes back. Thanks for the help by the way. |

If it crops up again, you may be able to disable the onboard sound in the Bios. |

I created a file called /etc/modprobe.d/sound and in it put the lines Code: options snd_ice1724 index=0
options snd_via82xx index=1 I have rebooted twice since doing this and haven't had the problem with it choosing my onboard sound as the primary soundcard. I found the names of my soundcards' modules by using the lsmod command. |
