i'm building my first pvr this weekend. i've burned a knoppmyth cd, and installed my motherboard, cpu, and dvd drives. my memory and hard drive will arrive tomorrow.
my question:
should i install my wintv pvr 150 in the case right away, or should i get the o/s installed and working and then install the pvr 150?
i'm guessing i should put the tuner card in first, but i don't want to make this more difficult than it needs to be.
i've read the list of things to avoid, and it sounds like this will be a challenging build. my mobo has a via chipset (Abit KV8 PRO). my hard drive is a 500gb sata. my video card is an ati aiw. that's 3 strikes against me, so i guess i'll just cross my fingers. if that doesn't do it, maybe i'll be doing more shopping.

Put all your hardware in first. :)

Also, I have a sata drive in my machine with no problems, though, it's not my primary drive, and it was installed into an already working box and just mounted to the /myth/tv path.

Don't worry about the SATA hdd, they 'just work' these days. I've got nothing but sata hdds running all from a auto install.

Build it as close to the final spec as possible. Do NOT leave out the tuner card. DO use the SATA disk. I speak from experience. It is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH easier to get things going when things are not missing at the beginning.

write down any post install tweaks you do.

I never do, and that's dumb come the next time! :)

i read that i need to set the refresh rate/res right away or i can damage my tv. would you recommend i do the knoppmyth install hooked up to my tv, or should i start on a pc monitor, and then switch to my tv when it's dialed in?

I also never write down any tweaks that I do after the install, and surely this slows me down come the next round of installs.

Though i'm getting faster at doing it the slow way, if that makes any sense.
