Having got the video working I am now trying to figure out my audio problems.
With my previous installation of Myth R4 something, I had the output of my MSI TV@nywhere card pluged into the line on the sound card and I had my speakers plugged into the audio out socked. This worked as it should.
When I installed R5F27 I found that I had no audio, I tried pluging the audio out from the TV card into the mic socket and it workes... sort of. Now the sound is not coming from my speakers, it comes from the little internal speaker inside the PC!
I am tempted to start pulling out wires and rewiring my PC, but I am sure there is a software solution.
I assume there is some way of controlling the inputs / out puts of the sound card, but being pretty green to linux I don't know where to start.

Run alsamixer as root. Adjust your mixer levels (NOTE: "MM" under a mixer means it's muted - Hitting M will toggle mute)

Then run alsactl store once your settings are where you want them.

I have tried the "alsamixer", and it seems to do the job, unfortunately if I rewind, or fast forward TV, or if a recording starts it resets the master volume. I have saved the settings with "alsactl store" all run as root, but the changes are still reset if I rewind, or fast forward TV, or if a recording starts.

Having done a bit of a search on this it seems like it is a common problem with other linux distributions.

Is there a file somewhere that I need to edit to stop it from resetting?

I know nothing about the MSI TV@nywhere and I didn't see where you mentioned which sound card/chipset you were using, but as a WAG it sounds like alsamixer defaulted to the audio on your MSI TV@nywhere (?) You may need to specify a soundcard with the -c option to get to the audio chipset you really want. See man alsamixer for more options.

Perhaps a rundown of your hardware specs would produce responses from others with similar systems - Couldn't hurt

Well after a bit of a break I had another go, searching for the answer to my Audio problem and still no luck!

I have set the master volume (to 78.) in alsamixer and saved it. It has saved, because when I restart Myth the correct master volume is set, however once I start to play a recording, fast forward or rewind, or a recording starts the master volume gets reset (to 24). Something is resetting my master volume, but I can't figure what.

Here are some system specs:
COMPAQ EVO D5PS P4 1.7
TV tuner card: MSI Tv@nywhere Master Cx88
Video card: nVidia NV6 Vanta
Sound Card: intel 82801BA-ich2 does this sound reasonable? it is an integrated card.

If there are any other specs that might be useful let me know.
