Hi Folks...

I've been running Knoppmyth on an Epia M-6000 with Hauppage 250 for a couple years. As of about a year ago, it "just worked" with a fresh install of KnoppMyth (thanks again, developers!!)

Now the board has died, and I'd really like to upgrade to something faster, but IT HAS TO BE FANLESS. I'm looking at the Epia EN12000EG, but I can't find much about it in various Myth forums. I don't have a lot of time to wrestle with anything that requires hacking...does anyone have any idea whether this board or any of its chips will cause me problems? Any other recommendations for a fanless, 1Ghz (or faster) system?

Any info including rumors and heresay would be appreciated.

By the way, the reason I want to upgrade is not for quality of tv, but for smoother and quicker OSD and menu response.

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide!

Query the folks at openchrome.org. If it works w/ openchrome, you should have no issues.

Hi, scratch.

The CN700 chipset on which the EPIA EN series is based is supported by openchrome. The MPEG2 decoder cannot decode HDTV, but should have no problem with SDTV feeds up to DVD-quality.

I, personally, have a couple of MII boards that work like champs and I have found no need to upgrade as of yet (other than the HDTV thing, for which I have another box). At 1 GHz, my MIIs do fairly well. The menus are a little sluggish but very tolerable. (Note: The MII 1GHz version is not fanless as-is.)

The board should work for you out-of-the-box, although xorg can be a little fussy at times during install. Check the forums if you have any trouble, and feel free to ask if you have any unanswered questions.

Cheers!
