Below are two hardware mods I ran into. Especially the IonCooler2 seems interesting to me, isn't that hard to construct and is within reasonable price range. This seems very interesting, because the fan always stops when you are away for two weeks (trust me - it has something to do with Murphy's law).

Currently I have no need for quiet cooling, but once I do, I will most likely try the IonCooler2. I anyone has any comments, I'd like to hear them.

On the one hand that is unbefreakingleavably cool.

On the other hand, my PCs are dust magnets enough without the ion generators. I suppose the second model is better, but I bet that first design needs to be taken outside with an air blaster every couple of days.

I like the ramdrives; but they're cool-for-the-sake-of-cool, and utterly impractical otherwise.

I used a Zalman fanless resisterator for silent cooling - I only got a feint buzz off the pump if the reservoir wasn't on a stable base or some noise from the hdd occasionally. Worked for over a year and was on 24 hours a day - it was second hand too.
