Post subject: | Getting 2nd Tuner working |
I am having a problem with my 2nd tuner, I just added it, it's a WinTV-PVR-250. When I go to Live TV and then press Y to switch Tuners it goes black, after about 30 seconds or so it kicks me back to the main menu. Any help would be appreciated. I believe I did all of the setup on it, but I am not sure. |

I would start by looking in /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log to see what error messages you see. Also, go into the mythtv setup utility (ALT-s) and make sure that each of your cards is being properly identified. Some other questions 1. What is your other tuner? 2. What options did you choose in the setup utility (ALT-s) for this tuner card? Marc |

In mythtv setup what "Card Type" did you use for the PVR-250? It should be set to "MPEG-2 encoder card (PVR-x50, PVR-500)" and the line "Probed info" should read something like "Hauppauge WinTV...". I suspect you have seleced the wrong card type for the PVR-250. Marc |

See the configuration walk through on this wiki page. BlackScreenWatchingTV Pay special attention to the card types given under "2. Capture Cards" Also, please note that adding a second card can change the detection order and depending on which slot you used the old card could end up at a different device (e.g. /dev/video0 becoming /dev/video1) |

You can see what input they are using from you start up screen or try: Code: dmesg | grep video
You need to do this as root. |

Thanks for all the help, it was the card type. I never even noticed that it could be changed. My old card was a V4L and it came up like that, so did the PVR-250. You know thats the funny part, I moved my card from the slot it was in to the other slot and then installed the new card and it's still coming up as tuner0 so I must of put it in the first slot. (I only have (2) PCI slots, and (1) 1/2 half-height AGP (that was hard finding a video card for)) root@mythtv:/home/xx# dmesg | grep video Boot video device is 0000:01:00.0 Linux video capture interface: v2.00 bttv0: registered device video0 ivtv0: Registered device video1 for encoder MPEG (4 MB) ivtv0: Registered device video32 for encoder YUV (2 MB) ivtv0: Registered device video24 for encoder PCM audio (1 MB) |

Glad that solved the problem. A combination of your log output and the info you provided on the setup settings made it look like that was the problem from here. TJC & Girkers, will he need to set up some udev rules to prevent random changing of device names on successive reboots? Marc |

That is not the same thing. I said "/dev/video0" or "/dev/video1". The numbered Tuner, Composite and S-Video names are inputs on that device. And they should start at 1 for modern V4L2 compliant drivers (e.g. the bttv, or ivtv drivers). Details matter when following directions or reporting settings. |
