Post subject: | More problems with these damn MCE remotes |
I've built a nice system and I'm having only one problem, and that is with the MCE remote. My system is a ECS GOAL3+ SiS 761 GX Micro ATX, with a AMD Sempron 3000+ 754, with a Hauppauge 500 MCE, a WD 500GB HD, and a Lite On DVD burner, with 512GB memory. I have the 1069 remote. I've spent the last 4 days install, reinstalling, troubleshooting, searching the web, trying everything and anything to get this thing to work. I got so tired of trying to fix it I've even tried mythbuntu. Personally I like KnoppMyth, I've been running it on another system since R5C7. I know the hardware works because it works on Mythbuntu, the only reason I'm not running Mythbuntu, honestly, is because under Mythbuntu the video playback bleeds from the top and I can't figure it out either. I've done everything posted in the forums, multiple times. I've tweaked the configuration, recompiled lirc, and nothing. I can see what the problem is, but I don't know how to fix it. There is nothing in /dev except lircmd. Here's some of the information I know people want to know Code: root@mythtvserver:~# lsusb Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Bus 002 Device 004: ID 0609:0334 SMK Manufacturing, Inc. What version of KnoppMyth? Which options are you choosing when you run /usr/local/bin/lirc-reconfig.sh? Have you seen http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=17035 ? |

I am running the latest R5F27. I did see that post, however I don't have that remote, I have the black one, so, no, I didn't try that. I can try it. The problem comes up though in that the system doesn't create a /dev/lirc to sym link to. I did try to use the AMCEUSB lirc-reconfig as well as both the mceusb and mceusb2 drivers, and didn't get anything different. I've reset the system back to virgin so that I can try out all these different things that are suggested. I'm assuming that there is only one lirc-reconfig, a thought comes to mind that perhaps there is more then one. I will look at the system after I finish work today and see if perhaps I'm running the wrong lirc-reconfig. In the end it comes down to using the right drivers, because if I can get Mythbuntu to use the remote, then it does work, I just have to futz with it. I did find out that the amd64 compile of mythbuntu weirds out my video, but the i386 seems to work, I didn't get any sound, but that was trying it using my existing FE/BE as the server and using the FE live run. I'll try installing the i386 version after I try out this round of fixes. |

Post subject: | MCE 1069 Black Remote mceusb3 ?? |
cyberdoo78 The Black 1069 remote and the SMK Manufacturing, Inc. receiver are the new Vista remotes and are not the same as MCE Version 2. They are more like a combination of Version 1 and 2. See this link http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/MCE_Remote cyberdoo78 first post Quote: Bus 002 Device 004: ID 0609:0334 SMK Manufacturing, Inc.
DEVICE="/dev/lirc0" MODULES="lirc_dev lirc_mceusb2" Version 1069 (black remote) comes with a new SMK IR receiver which requires lirc_mceusb not lirc_mceusb2 even though it is a newly released remote. Your . /etc/lirc/hardware.conf file needs changing MODULES="lirc_dev lirc_mceusb2" to MODULES="lirc_dev lirc_mceusb" I think I would edit /usr/local/share/knoppmyth/remotes/MCEUSB-new/hardware.conf Code: DEVICE="/dev/lirc0"
MODULES="lirc_dev lirc_mceusb2" and rerun As root# /usr/local/bin/lirc-reconfig.sh I have not tried this so let me know how it work out. TVBox |

I have exactly the same problem, but with a Pinnacle PCTV Remote kit"for Vista" Really hard to figure out which could be the correct configuration for this remote. I tried to follow your suggestions but it stil didn't work. irw gives no output (just comes back to command line) lsusb replies with: Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Bus 003 Device 002: ID 2304:0225 Pinnacle Systems, Inc. [hex] Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 In /var/log/lircd I got this: Nov 12 22:49:43 salon lircd: lircd(mceusb2) ready Nov 12 22:49:51 salon lircd: accepted new client on /dev/lircd Nov 12 22:49:51 salon lircd: could not open /dev/lirc Nov 12 22:49:51 salon lircd: default_init(): No such device Nov 12 22:49:51 salon lircd: caught signal I'm rookie with MythTV and a little bit lost now.... I read a ton of how tos and tutorials about configuring MCE remote with lirc, but I'm starting to think that this recent Pinnacle remote is maybe not supported.... |

Post subject: | MCE Vista Remote |
spacexion I first off I have no idea if Pinnacle Systems, Inc. is a Microsoft RC6 ir remote (it should say on the back) but you may have this one. http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Products/Consumer+Products/PCTV+Tuners/PCTV+Vista+Companion/Pinnacle+Remote+Kit+for+Windows+Media+Center.htm So lets give it a try. Run cat and post your results Code: cat /etc/lirc/hardware.conf run lsmod as in (L not 1) to see what module you have loaded? Code: lsmod
Post any line that has lirc in it. Like example below. lirc_mceusb2 ------ 14980 --- 1 lirc_dev ------------ 16772 --- 1 lirc_mceusb2 usbcore ------------ 111364 - 7 usbhid, usb_storage, uhci_hcd, lirc_mceusb2, ehci_hcd, ohci_hcd Do you have access to your Knoppmyth box from another networked machine? Have your altered the files below in any way? /etc/lirc/lircd.conf /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc /usr/local/share/knoppmyth/remotes/MCEUSB-new/hardware.conf At this point in time I would say that you should have lirc_mceusb loaded not lirc_mceusb2. Thank you so much for your help TvBox. You certainly understood that I'm a beginner with Knoppmyth... Anyway I can recognise a L from a 1 ![]() As you correctly guessed, the Pinnacle is the one you linked, RC-6 standard. No other tech specification available anyware, on the web or on the box. Cat says: Code: # Arguments which will be used when launching lircd LIRCD_ARGS="" #Don't start lircmd even if there seems to be a good config file START_LIRCMD=false #Try to load appropriate kernel modules LOAD_MODULES=true # Run "lircd --driver=help" for a list of supported drivers. DRIVER="default" # If DEVICE is set to /dev/lirc and devfs is in use /dev/lirc/0 will be # automatically used instead DEVICE="/dev/lirc0" MODULES="lirc_dev lirc_mceusb" root@salon:/home/mediacenter# While lsmod replies with these lirc related lines: Code: lirc_mceusb 13152 0 lirc_dev 16772 1 lirc_mceusb usbcore 111364 7 lirc_mceusb,usbhid,usb_storage,ohci_hcd,ehci_hcd,uhci_hcd I also got a ir_common line: Code: ir_common 33540 4 cx88xx,saa7134,ir_kbd_i2c,bttv
Is it maybe this related to ir remote in any way? Maybe interferring with lirc? I don't know... For the 3 files you specified, I tried many configurations found on the web in the last few days. Anyway, as nothing worked, yesterday evening I did a complete format on the mediacenter hard disk and reinstalled KnoppMyth R5F27 from scratch. So these 3 files are now the default ones installed by KnoppMyth. Again, thank you very much for your help. |

Did you do a clean install or did you do a upgrade? an upgrade can sometimes carry over demons if it didn't work correctly before. A Knoppmyth clean install will reformat the hard drive, you don't have to do it before hand. Upgrade or clean install. When you did your install was your USB receiver plugged in? Yes or No When you did a clean install did the program automatically install your remote or did it take you to a list to choose which remote that you wanted? My question is, was the USB remote receiver auto detected? Yes or no If you where taken to a list which remote did you choose? AMCEUSB-new MCEUSB-new MCEUSB-old Do you have access to your Knoppmyth box from another networked machine? Yes or No Do you have Webmin working Yes or No Are you accessing you machine remotely or are you alt-x into an Xterm window? Note: Not all programs run correctly when accessed from a remote machine but it make trouble shooting a lot easer. Yes or No Is the data you posted from the old install or from the new? It makes things easer with the new install and everything is reset back to zero. It gives me a better chance to help you. old install or new install If old, post what you have right now. cat lsmod I am not trying to be condescending here but the data you posted is conflicting with your statements and we both have to be on the same page. My fonts on my machine may not look like the fonts on your machine. I wasted 10 hours once on the l1 font confusion. In my word file I use for information storage l and 1 are Identical except that the lower case L is about 5% taller than the one. School of hard knocks. TVBox |

Update If you have this remote the lirc_mceusb2 module will not support it until lirc 8.3. Which means the your knoppmyth version must be greater than R5F27. run "cat /proc/bus/usb/devices" and if you have any of the below with these Vendor / ProdID you wil need lirc 8.3 lirc_mceusb2 module.
