Post subject:  How to upgrade to new video card?

Newly installed KnoppMyth running great so far. Just got a new nVidia 6200 to replace the FX5200 card already installed. What is the best way to install this new card so that KnoppMyth will reconfigure?

Depending on which nVidia drivers you are using there may not be anything at all to do except install the new card (check /var/log/Xorg.0.log for version).

Why are you replacing the 5200?

Performance with the FX5200 was fine, even for my HDTV needs. But I wanted a quieter (fanless) card so I got the 6200 which I have read is preferred for HDTV.

My Xorg.0.log file shows it did indeed recognize the new card. However, I am confused why my xorg.conf remained the same. It's date stamp is from the original install. Shouldn't that get updated too?

Post subject:  What if the card isn't detected correctly

I swapped my backend server and the new video card isn't compatible with the current xorg.conf.

I modified /etc/inittab to stop X from spawning but I would like to get the display working again.

What is the command to recreate xorg.conf?

I think you're looking for:
Code:
xorgconfig

As long as the currently installed driver can handle the 6200 I wouldn't expect it to change (nor would I want it to if my current settings were working).

What I am trying to do is get my HDTV settings into xorg.conf. The command "xorgconfig" did nothing for me. No such command found.

OK, now I'm confused. If your xorg.conf hasn't changed then your "HDTV settings" in xorg.conf are intact. You simply swapped out the FX5200 for a fanless 6200, nothing else changed? What specific problem(s) are you now having with HD?

EDIT: Are you posting as both jMon and jjoshua? That could be where you got me confused. /EDIT

It's the same because you didn't change it.

The same nVidia driver and configuration works fine with
the new card, so why change it?
