Just went with FiOS and thus needed to get IR blasting working with one of their set-top boxes.
Thanks to a couple of the excellent threads here and the KnoppMythWiki article on getting the PVR-150's IR blaster working, I thought I'd actually managed to get it working.
While running through the script to determine which code set to use, I was getting intermittent results... one range of codes would turn it off, then running that range again would not turn it off.
I finally came up with a codeset that seemed to work, since after editing lircd.conf I was able to get my box to change channels by sending it the channel change command from the command line. I then ran mythtv-setup and put the channel change command in the appropriate spot.
Ran mythfrontend. Channel changing was intermittent on the machine that's also the backend. It seemed to drop the first digit at times. Interestingly, changing channels from my remote front end worked just fine, so I didn't worry about it. I set up some recordings and crossed my fingers.
Woke up this morning to multiple recordings from the same channel, as my system has somehow spontaneously lost the ability to change channels.
Running the channel_change script from the command line gives no errors, but also doesn't change the channel. Plus, running the script that goes through all codes to determine which code to use, no longer turns on/off my set top box. The PVR's blaster didn't change position and the LED is blinking.
So after reading various threads here this morning, I seem to have the following options:
* download a more-current firmware set and lircd.conf and try again (I'll definitely try this when I get home)
* at least two or three people seemed to have solved their problem by just reinstalling KnoppMyth from scratch. This is harsh medicine but I can do it if need be.
* there seems to be questions whether the PVR-150's blaster is actually blasting IR or not, which might explain the intermittent results. I'd love to go with a serial blaster, except that my motherboard doesn't have an onboard serial port (it has one you can plug in and mount in a PCI card opening, but all my slots have tuners in them). There's a USB blaster called the CommandIR, but it's pricey ($99) and sold out.
OK, that's all. Maybe I'm just venting here. Thanks for any advice or pages I've missed.
