I have a quick question that my searches didn't answer. Is the stream coming in from an HDHomeRun already mpeg encoded or does the machine have to do it? On a related note, how much bandwidth will it be using?

I'm not too worried about processing power since my machine has plenty to spare, but I'm thinking of building a front-end only box for another room and I'm worried about bandwidth if the HDHR is recording two shows and Myth is trying to stream a show to the frontend. Will this be a problem at all?

Also, this may be a stupid question but I wanted to double check, a QAM tuner is just an analog tuner like what's in a PVR card, correct?

It's MPEG2, because the source from which it captures is MPEG2, whether it's ATSC or QAM.

The official spec is that you'll need a 100Mbps network to stream two 1080i signals simultaneously. Each 1080i stream runs about 16Mbps, plus any transmission overhead.

It sure could be With a gigabit LAN, you'd run into no problems, but you could possibly cause bottlenecks on a 100Mbps LAN, depending on your usage and the quality of the equipment/cabling involved.

Quite the opposite. QAM and ATSC tuners are digital only. QAM/ATSC tuner devices will not capture NTSC signals.

From my experience... I had trouble at times running my HDHR to my frontend thru a 4 port router. changed to a 4 port 10/100 switch and had no trouble. changed to an 8 port 10/100/1000 switch (needed the ports) and have seen no trouble.

Thanks, that does help a lot. The HDHomeRun (at least in my situation) may not be the incredible solution I thought it might be.

My network setup is...interesting. There's wires run left and right in this house and I'm not sure it will handle the bandwidth since it's not gigabit. I could set up a local subnet just between myth and the HDHR but I'm not sure it's worth the trouble especially if I won't get NTSC signals which is what I'm currently using on my PVRs.
