Does anybody know of a PCI tuner that will receive C-Band signals for FTA and subscription based programming? I'd rather not have a separate set-top box and an IR blaster to do this.

My BUD is 8' and has a C-band and kU band LNB. The motor works.

A 4DTV tuner would be great as PCI as well if anybody knows of one.

Any ideas on what additional things I'll need to do to control this setup? Will it be as easy as DVB-S?

Thanks,

~ryan

Looks like i'm controlling my C-Band dish via my IR Blaster & it's receiver. I'd rather not, it's 1 more thing that needs power & cables to it.

I was searching the forum to see if anyone came up with a way to get a listing for just one sat and saw your post.

I believe they can overseas, I've read somewhere that there are PCI cards with CAM interface. I heard also some countries stream their guide info along with the tv signal and there is software to grab the guide info.

At least you can get a 4dtv listing from SD for your BUD. I have a small ku setup and currently I haven't found a way to get a listing for G10R....I can only pick one channel and create an instance with SD for it....

moose, I have pondered this before as well.

Any of the supported PCI cards should work fine on C band. I have used a Hauppauge Nova S Plus, Twinhan102g, and SkyStar2 in the past for C/Ku band in Knoppmyth. That would be good for FTA, but you still need something to move the dish like a VboxII. That would make it seamless when switching channels. Also, there's other things to consider like if your feedhorn is mechanically controlling polarization or if polarization is controlled via voltage.

When you start talking about throwing a 4DTV into the mix, it gets very complicated. You can not subscribe to 4DTV with anything other than a 4DTV box (DSR905, 920, 921, 922, 410, etc.) because the decryption is done via hardware (DigiCipher2, which does not use smart cards). CAMs can be used for subscriptions overseas because the providers (much like here in the us) use smart cards.

Additionally, if you're planning on a 4DTV package which involves multiple satellites, I think you'll need to create seperate IR blaster scripts for each satellite. That way, when you tell MythTV where the IRblaster script is for a particular channel, you can point it to a script that first changes the sat position to C3, C4, etc. then changes the channel number, then presses enter. It is quite involved.

I'm not an expert, but I have been where you are. I'll be glad to help if I can. Take a stroll over to the satelliteguys.us forum too, they have a Cband and FTA forum with a LOT of knowledgable folks over there. Got a few people over there running KnoppMyth or other versions of MythTV.

I have a working 4DTV/Myth setup. Myth controls the 4DTV via IR blaster. I would be happy to share with you how my system works and the scripts I created to interface the two.
