Hi
I'm planning on building my first Myth box and I thought I'd post some specs here and see if anyone has any comments. I've looked over the KRP frontend/backend system and read around online and come up with the following:
Samsung SpinPoint HD501LJ 500GB SATAII Hard Drive
Hauppauge WinTV Nova-T 500 Dual digital DVB-T PCI TV Tuner card
Crucial 1GB DDR2 667MHz/PC2-5300 Memory
Bosse Sonata MATX MediaCenter Case - With 220W PSU 20+4pin
MSI K9N6SGM-V GeForce 6100 Socket AM2 onboard VGA and 8-channel audio Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (2.2GHz) Socket AM2 512KB L2 Cache
Zalman CNPS7000B-CU Super Flower CPU Cooler
Samsung SH-S203B 20X DVD±RW/RAM / DL Serial ATA
(plus keyboard, mouse that I have lying around. Do I need a dedicated graphics card?)
i live in the UK and plan to be able to watch and record terrestial digital TV (freeview) as well as watch DVDs, and listen to music on the box. (I'm also aiming at an alternative use as a basic computer for web-browing etc.. but this isn't too important). I'd like the system to be expandable if I decide to go HD or anything in the future.
I've never built a quiet system before, but I'd like a quiet-ish system. But silence is definitely not necessary.
Any comments?
Thanks.

What kind of TV are you using? I see on ebuyer the technical specs say there is a vga out.
If you are outputting to a CRT ie a non-HDTV (an LCD or Plasma with a VGA computer connection) you almost certainly do need a graphics card for either S-Video to a CRT or to a DVI / HDMI connection.
Good luck.

I was under the impression my TV had a VGA port but on closer inspection I see I'm wrong. I think I'll get a cheap (and cool) pci-express card with tv out. Shouldn't be too expensive especially if I get it from ebay. Any recommendations?
Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

quite a few of the Nvidia Geforce 6100 or 6150 motherboards have svideo out on the back plate, you might want to change to a slightly different motherboard rather than buying a seperate gfx card.
