Post subject:  Theoretical HD FE/BE build
Howdy... I wanted to get the opinion of some folks here who may be running some or all of the hw I am looking into getting. I've found some mention of some things I plan on using but not all.


Now this would be outputting to analog by YPbPr via S-Video converter cable but there is another board that does have HDMI direct out but I don't know if that's taken care of by the BIOS or is software driven also it has the 945G chipset which I'm not sure if HD resolutions are supported. One other thing to note is that there is also a mini-PCI slot and I was thinking of adding either an AOpen LR351 or one of the Avermedia M10x lines (I haven't done full research on these yet so that may get nixed). This would potentially give me 3 or 4 tuners in this thing.

Comments, improvements, or shoot-downs welcome. My goal was to get a mini-itx setup so I don't have a monster system sitting next to the big screen.

If you are converting an S-Video output to YPbPr it will never be HD. S-vid is SD only. :( The HDMI route would be better if it has a driver that works with Linux.

Edit: I see there is a DVI port on that board. You could use a DVI -> HDMI converter cable to output HD. :)

Yeah I know S-Vid is SD only but take a closer look at the spec page graphic of the mobo. The pin-outs for a S-Vid connector specify 4 pins. If you do a close-up on the mobo you'll see that the connector has about 6 or 7. So it looks as if the component hookups are piggy-backing on the S-Vid connector and are not being down-converted.

I'll need to look into doing the DVI -> HDMI route as you suggested (just wish there was a way to mix the audio in there)

It looks like a 7-pin connector. So maybe it can do HD. :o
