I am looking to build a MythTV box using KnoppMyth and I was thinking about getting an IDE Raid card and throw a couple 120GB or 160GB drives in the machine so I will have plenty of space. Is there anything I need to be aware of when doing this? Any cards you would recommend or any that I need to stay away from? I usually run FreeBSD, but I would imagine Linux would support most IDE Raid cards. Thanks!

Well, according to what I have read, the included software raid
using md works about as good as an IDE raid card, unless you
spend bucks for the card.

yes and unless you get a good one you have to load the proper drivers et al bleh. If you can get a 3ware card they rock. It acts just like a scsi raid card. It is a true hardware raid card, and the drivers for it have been in the stock kernel for ages.(since at least 2.2)

Jesus, the lowest priced 3ware raid card on newegg is $131:
3ware Raid Cards

Was hoping I would find a 3ware raid card for like $40 LOL. Was looking for a card because I tried to add a 3rd hard drive to my system but could not because the darn IDE cable was not long enough to connect both the drive and the dvd burner. Maybe I'll just go for a controller card without raid since you guys are stating the raid implemented in these lower end cards suck. Here are some interesting ones.

Controller Cards With Raid:
High Point RocketRaid 100 - $51
Acard ATA AEC-6880 - $49

Controller Cards Without Raid:
High Point ATA Rocket 100 - $25
High Point ATA Rocket 133 - $35
Promise ATA Ultra133 TX2 - $46

The prices above include shipping. Any recommendations?
