Post subject: | HD playback on VIA EPIA EX15000G |
Anyone had any experience with this board. I think it would make a great diskless FE board. It has all the bells and whistles that you would ever want on a front end. The thing that worries me is the UniChrome Pro II video decoder. I know others have hit a brick wall on other projects with this hardware. IE(minimyth) Here are the specs: EX15000G Specifications Processor VIA 1.5 GHz C7 Chipset VIA CX700M2 System Memory 1 DDR2 533 DIMM (DDR2 667 is backward compatible) Up to 1GB memory size VGA Integrated VIA UniChrome Pro II 3D/2D AGP graphics with MPEG-2/4 and WMV9 accelerator Expansion Slots 1 PCI Onboard IDE 1 ATA 133 (40-pin) Onboard Serial ATA 2 SATA connectors Onboard USB 6 USB 2.0 Onboard LAN VIA VT6107 10/100 Onboard Audio VIA VT1708A HD audio codec Onboard TV Out VIA VT1625M HDTV encoder Onboard 1394 VIA VT6307S IEEE 1394 (FireWire) Back Panel I/O 1 LAN port 2 USB 2.0 ports 1 DVI-I port 1 S-Video port 1 YPbPr port 1 TV-out port 1 S/PDIF port (coaxial connector) 1 S/PDIF port (optical connector) 2 Stereo outputs: left channel, right channel Onboard I/O Connectors 1 PS2 mouse/keyboard connector 1 IDE 40-pin connector 2 USB 2.0 connectors for 4 USB ports 1 IEEE 1394 connector 2 SATA connectors Front panel audio connector 1 Audio line-in connector 1 LPC connector 2 Fan connectors 1 TV out connector 1 VIP (video interface port) connector 1 LVDS/TTL/DVI module connector ATX power connector BIOS Award BIOS, 4/8Mb flash memory System Monitoring & Management Wake on LAN, Keyboard power on, Timer power on, System power management, AC power failure recovery Operating Temperature 0 ~ 50°C Operating Humidity 0% ~ 95% (relative humidity; non-condensing) Form Factor Mini-ITX (17 cm x 17 cm) Includes ATA 133 flat cable (40-pin, 80 conductor, 3 connectors) Any info good or bad would be appreciated. According to the drivers page http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?Pa ... bCatID=171 it looks like it should work with the debian core of knoppmyth just fine. |

You might want to look at the openchrome (www.openchrome.org) driver. Not sure how it works its way into Knoppmyth but there have been, in the past, accomodations made for Epia boards. regards Sokminer |

i dont mind if i need to install those drivers. I don't ask that it be a part of knoppmyth unless the community thinks its a good idea. Just wondering if anyone has installed one and verified if the drivers work and if the HD playback is flawless or not. Dont want to buy one if there are playback or compatability problems. |

You might want to check this thread out. it's not the same EPIA board but has a Unichrome video decoder. http://knoppmyth.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18355 How much is this board? Though not as flexible as building your own computer the AppleTV appears to be a good front end for HD. $230. http://knoppmyth.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16093 |
