Post subject:  HD-3000 card dead? How to tell?

The good news was that I upgraded to RC 5.5 and everything seemed to go smoothly. No problems, only a few tweaks to make, and all seemed good. Got recordings from both my HD-3000 and my PVR-150. End of good news.

This evening I went to check MythWeb, and it wasn't responding; neither was SSH. Went to see what the backend was doing, and the screen was ORANGE. Did a hard power down, then started it back up again.

Bottom line: it no longer seems to recognize my HD3000 tuner. If I go to set up a new tuner card and pick the DVB drivers I get the following in mythtv-setup: "Could not get card info for card #0 Subtype: Unknown error"

I looked at dmesg but wasn't sure what to look for. If I grep just ivtv lines in dmesg I mainly see stuff dealing with the Hauppauge card.

Code:
ceenvee703@mbe:/var/log$ dmesg | grep ivtv | more
ivtv:  Start initialization, version 1.2.0
ivtv0: Initializing card #0
ivtv0: Autodetected Hauppauge card (cx23416 based)
ivtv0: Autodetected Hauppauge WinTV PVR-150
ivtv0: Reopen i2c bus for IR-blaster support
cx25840 0-0044: cx25843-24 found @ 0x88 (ivtv i2c driver #0)
tuner 0-0061: chip found @ 0xc2 (ivtv i2c driver #0)
wm8775 0-001b: chip found @ 0x36 (ivtv i2c driver #0)
ivtv0: Registered device video0 for encoder MPG (4096 kB)
ivtv0: Registered device video32 for encoder YUV (2048 kB)
ivtv0: Registered device vbi0 for encoder VBI (1024 kB)
ivtv0: Registered device video24 for encoder PCM (320 kB)
ivtv0: Initialized card #0: Hauppauge WinTV PVR-150
ivtv:  End initialization
ivtv0: Loaded v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw firmware (376836 bytes)
ivtv0: Encoder revision: 0x02060039

Maybe I should open this PITA box up and reseat the card. I was messing around the back of my "rack" after I installed things (wiring in a new set of speakers), can't imagine what I could have done but I guess it's possible.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

What mother board are you running? I think I remember you having a Biostar TF7025-M2.

Yesterday afternoon I did a clean install of RC 5.5 and I having some bazaar reactions. After about two hours everything stated to slow down. A transcode that should have taken 5 minute's took almost a hour. Top is registering 200% CPU utilization. The heatsink on the 7050 chip is so hot you can touch it but you can't hold on to it. I eventually lost the sound and video when watching a recording or live TV. Video on Mythtv is ok. Now today I'am starting it up for two or three minutes at a time to try and trouble shoot it before it gets to hot.

This is the same machine I use all through the testing of RC 5.5 and has never run hot nomater how hard I pushed it.

Yes, you remember correctly. I pulled the HD3000 card from the system; it'd be interesting to try it in another system to see if it still works. Will watch out for other symptoms like yours and see what happens. Not seeing any problems with top yet, but I also haven't tried any transcoding.
