Yesterday I accidentally tried to "generate video thumbnails" and it seems to have crashed my km-box. I ctrl-alt-F1 to get to a prompt and rebooted. The box shutdown and never started. Fans run and power supply works but it will not POST. So I thought I would use this opportunity to upgrade the mobo, chip & ram and switch to km to R5.5. Also might be a good time to rid myself of my ATI video card.

I would to be able to:
1) switch between DVI and VGA on the fly in KM, maybe with a restart of the X server.
2) run analog 5.1 surround sound, and
3) it would be cool to get mythwelcome to work to make things greener.

Currently my pick is the:
1) AM2 ASUS M2N-VM DVI NF630A PCIE NVIDIA GeForce 7050PV $75
or
2) AM2+ ASUS M3N78-VM GF8200 $100

I would be interested to hear what others would suggest.
Thanks,
Josh

I haven't used it yet, but I just ordered an MSI MOBO for $75 + shipping + tax -- see this thread for more info http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18890

What I like about it is:

1. Built in nvidia 7100 graphics and VGA, DVI ahd HDMI connectors.

2. Built in firewire / 1394.

3. Gigabit ethernet.

4. Works with the new low-power 45NM intel CPUs like the E8400.

I don't know for sure if the ACPI wakeup stuff will work with it.

Well maybe I was bit quick thinking about buying new parts. I thought I should make sure things really weren't working, so I plugged my freshly tested PSU back into the mobo with nothing else and it posted, put the everything back together and everything works.

Marc thanks for the suggestion, I have not been keeping up to date on new hardware. Those new intel chips seem like a very smart CPU to build a KM box around. For now I will keep using my old set since I have it.
