Post subject:  R5.5 problems with GeForce2 MX S-video to TV

Hi,

I'm having a problem getting R5.5 to display properly on my television over s-video out.

I've tried all the NTSC modes that my video card supports.

Quote:
Modes for Brooktree BT869 Rev 3 (1:8A) on GeForce2 MX (01:00.00)
NTSC 640, 480 Small 13.79,13.58 4:3
NTSC 640, 480 Normal 10.59,08.23 4:3
NTSC 640, 480 Huge 02.46,01.23 4:3
NTSC 800, 600 Small 21.62,11.52 4:3
NTSC 800, 600 Normal 11.90,05.35 4:3
NTSC 800, 600 Huge 07.15,00.00 4:3
NTSC 720, 480 Normal 08.76,18.11 DVD
NTSC 720, 480 DVD 01.25,01.24 DVD

For version R4V27, the following setting worked properly for me.
/usr/bin/nvtv -S NTSC -t -r 640,480 -s Normal
Now, the best I can get is...
/usr/bin/nvtv -S NTSC -t -r 800,600 -s Huge
But this makes the picture extend beyond the screen, so I am only seeing the upper left 75% of the screen.

Per TJC's tips, I tried installing the other versions of the nvidia drivers.
Quote:
For older cards especially MX4 or MX2 family which aren't correctly identified:
Code:
install-nvidia-debian.sh 96.43.05 -force

or:
Code:
install-nvidia-debian.sh 71.86.04 -force

That doesn't help either.

When I tried editing the xorg.conf file, I just screwed up my system so that it wouldn't boot anymore, so I don't want to jump into mucking around with that again.

Has anyone had any luck running R5.5 with a GeForce2 MX video card and s-video out to a tube television. Any advice? I can post log files if necessary.

Thanks,
Dan

Post subject:  I fixed it

I went ahead and messed with my xorg.conf and somehow got it to work by trying some different suggestions found in the forums here.

Thanks anyways. I'm still trying to figure out how to get the display to configure every time the system starts up. It is a permissions issue, but I don't understand this nvtvd daemon thing.
