Post subject:  Static in TV speakers & loss of signal w/ NVidia drivers

After an upgrade to R5.5 and when using NVidia drivers for my NVidia 8600 I get static noise from the TV speakers and the display "flashes" - it is a loss of signal from the PC to the TV as the TV states it is looking for a source.

The flashes are at random, but pretty frequent. The Static noise is constant and I have to mute the TV.

This starting occuring using the same hardware after an upgrade to R5.5 - and with multiple different revisions of NVidia drivers. This is a Frontend only PC. Resorting to "vesa" as the driver resolves the issue but then of course the resolutions are not optimal.

The Video is a PCI-X NVidia 8600GT. The mobo is an Asus. The Samsung DLP display is connected via a DVI to HDMI cable.

I have seen related issues referenced on the Internet that talk about it being an issue with X and the DVI to HDMI connection. I have not found any kind of config for X that resolves this problem.

The display shows the GUI and plays back programs just fine except for the interruptions from the "flashing". Audio through the audio card to my reciever sounds fine.

Anyone come across this?

What is the motherboard? I have an ASUS M3N78-VM and I'm experiencing static; however, it's not constant...
