Hi All,

I am a windows guy thou believe Linux ROCKS.
This said please note I know very very little about Linux.

I have a HP Compaq nx7010 that I would like to use with KnoppMyth.
I do not want to use the TV IN functions but would like to be able to access a networked 1TB drive with all my media on it and organise and be able to watch my films, pictures and audio files from there.

My hardware specs can be found here:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11814_na/11814_na.HTML
Look for: Cnx7010QP150W540WCg25P

Can anyone please let me know if my hardware is suitable and if I will have to configure anything in particular?

I am currently downloading the iso image 5.5 from ftp://ftp.knoppmyth.net/R5/R5.5/
I noticed there are some patches. Should I apply these and how.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Regards

Hardware looks okay for SD media. Are you looking to play HD? If all you want to do is playback media content, MythTV may not be the right tool for the job. I'd suggest looking into Elisa for instance.

I tried installing Knoopmyth. I tinstalled fine as far as the standard installation, but then I tried to use a normal remote control (universal one) that was not listed in the list, and ran into lirc... read about it but turned it down. Seems to big a job for me.
Anyway, had a look at Elisa and it seems pretty good. Do you have any other suggestions? I would appreciate if you could point me to other systems.
In the mean time I have got hold of an NMT and should be ok with it, but I am always on the lookout for something new, just in case :)

Thanks and keep up all the good work.

Stephen
