I rebooted after my sound stop working on everything including movies and recordings(every once in while the sound stops on my movies and is fixed when I switch to a recording for a second and then back to a movie). When it started to boot again fsck forced a manual check and after a lot of yyyyyyyyyy it finished. Rebooted again, and that nasty c7 respawning message appeared. After an hour of muddling around, I discovered my /tmp was totally gone (when i did a man ls it couldn't create tmp file). So I made a new one with mkdir /tmp and chmod 1777 /tmp.

Is this a serious sign? My main drive is -2 years old (ide 120g seagate) and has been running knoppmyth(current 5.5) for that long(24/7). This is the second time I have done a manual fsck (last was 1 year ago)

Thanks
On a side note, my longest uptime was 103 days.

I'm not sure if your drive is 'going bad' or not, but there was clearly filesystem corruption some how. Was it powered down cleanly?

Have a look at using smartmontools to at a minimum, read the SMART chip on the drive. You can also do a short and long test as well.

Thanks I'll try that with smartmontools(never used before) this weekend. It was powered down cleanly.
