Does anybody know of any "gotchas" with particular versions of the HDHomeRun firmware? I just picked one up to expand my selection of tuners and replace the PVR cards before they become completely useless, but it's got fairly old firmware and probably needs to be updated.

How about any suggestions above and beyond the SiliconDust Linux setup stuff?

Thanks...

I would recommend updating to the latest firmware. Mine would, on very rare occasions, just disappear from the network and Myth would stop using it and miss recordings without warning. Restarting the HDHR would fix it.

The latest firmware (20090415) fixed that problem and all has been well. Unfortunately I didn't make a note of what firmware I had previously.

Also, the newer firmwares fix some channel scanning errors, so that is enough reason for me to update.

Just picked up one of these also and looking to upgrade the firmware. Tried following the directions but ran into a problem.

If the name of the firmware is actually a date released (which it seems to be), then the April firware release must have been a good one, as its been months without update...

nmcaullay - Based on reading their change notes, the numbers in the name are definitely a date.

spideyk21 - What problem did you have? I upgraded without any hassles on Friday night following their directions. It was harder to get hdhomerun_config_gui working but mostly because they don't mention running ldconfig so that it can find the new shared library.

tjc,

Looking at the directions again, it looks straight forward. I can't remember what the problem was at the moment (Last time I was away from home and was working via vnc). I will give it another try in the next day or so and let you know the results.

I have the HDHomerun config GUI running on my main Desktop (Windows Vista - yeah, yeah I'm know, I did it for the DX10) and it automatically checks for firmware updates to the HDHomerun and asks me if I want to apply them.

Obviously this solution isn't for everyone but if your running a Windows box on your network already it really does make the firmware updates stupid simple.
