I just put R6 on a couple days ago and I'm a LONG time Arch linux user so the first thing I did after LinHES installed was a pacman -Syu. I found tha I had an instant hard lockup issue when I would turn off my Denon 3808ci receiver. Myth would work great but as soon as I'd change inputs on my receiver or turn it off, my Myth box would hard lock. I thought about it a few days and decided to downgrade the Nvidia driver back to 180. Well that took care of the hard lock..

Back to the sound

Still no sound. I added a Gigabyte Nvidia 9500GT PCIe card in hopes of doing VDPAU. It has a connector that connects to the SPDIF to pipe audio over HDMI which I tried for a few days to get work. Eventually I put in the stock SPDIF conector back in that I've used with Myth for years and didn't get any sound over that either and that's when I started scratching my head. Everything is turned on in Alsamixer and boosted, I have alsa pointing to the SPDIF in Myth, so not sure whats up.

Any Ideas?

Ether..

Here's the Video Card I bought:

Well folks, it wasnt R6, or my HTPC.

It was ME!! Ugh..

My Video card has a SPDIF input and SPDIF cross-connect to the mobo SPDIF that is "supposed" to pipe the SPDIF over HDMI. Well, it sure doesnt work on Linux.. Whan troubleshooting the audio over HDMI, I set my receiver to only receive audio over HDMI. Thus my optical conector would not work even though I had my a particular input on my receiver set to the correct optical input.

As it stands, video over HDMI, Audio over SPDIF/Optical = working

BLAH! :-D

Ether..

Glad you solved your problem. Could you elaborate on what change you made as it is not clear to me.

Sorry for not being clear.. I can see where it wouldnt be.

My graphics card has a RGB/DVI/HDMI output. On the nvidia board itself there is an input intended to plug into the SPDIF connectors on any main board. The idea is that the SPDIF audio is piped through the HDMI connector.

My Receiver a Denon 3808ci switches HDMI 1.3 and is the central piece in my audio system.

When I first popped my Nvidia 9500GT in, I plugged the SPDIF pipe into it from the mainboard, removed my original optical SPDIF from my receiver and expected the SPDIF to be piped through the Nvidia card through HDMI and on to my receiver. Well, it didn't work and I fiddled with the way my handled HDMI. So when I gave up on the SPDIF over HDMI and put my optical SPDIF back in, it didn't work. I just assumed my audio hardware wasnt working under R6 because I upgraded R6 at the same time I installed the Nvidia card.

In fiddling with my receiver (on the SPDIF over HDMI issue), I (accidentally) set it to only accept audio over HDMI which would keep my optical SPDIF from working when I started troubleshooting my audio.

(I hope this helps)
