Does anyone currently have their box configured with a USB harddrive for storage? Can the USB harddrive be use to store videos and music without a performance impact on the quality of the playback. Thanks, Mike G. |

probably, but the whole reason that most people want it wouldn't work very well, because you would need to keep a linux filesystem on it to keep performance up, as NTFS is slow, and FAT32 file sizes are limited to 2G. |

Correct me if I am wrong, LVM + USB Hub + (N * USB Harddrive), where N would be the number of ports on the HUB. Could this solve the problem of dynamically expanding a MythBox storage without having a separate file share or adding HDs to the box itself? I am looking into solutions to the need for increased storage without reconfiguring my box or adding physical internal HDs to the box. Note: I am not looking for these USB hard drives to be shared(moved) between Windows/Lunix boxes except through Samba. Thanks, Mike G. |

that sounds like a feasible solution. you would have to make sure they are usb2 and that you had the ehci driver loaded. also it's a rather expensive solution, but they do make an external usb2 box that has 1Tb storage in it. |
